Mozart was born in Salzburg on January 27, 1756 and spent a large part of his life here. During his time in Salzburg, Mozart composed numerous important works, including his famous symphonies, concertos, chamber music pieces and operas. His music was innovative, full of passion and expressiveness. Mozart's music contributed significantly to the cultivation of musical life in Salzburg and established the city as a center of classical music.

The musical heritage

Even after his death in 1791, Mozart's legacy lived on in Salzburg. The city honors him to this day as one of its most famous citizens and as a musical genius. The annual Mozart Festival, which has been held since 1956, attracts visitors from all over the world and presents Mozart's music in all its diversity. In addition, the Mozarteum, a renowned music university, is named after Mozart and continues his musical tradition.

Mozart's birth place

Mozart's birthplace is located at Getreidegasse 9 in Salzburg's old town. Mozart was born there on January 27, 1756 and spent the first years of his childhood.

Highway tollImportant information for your trip to Austria.

Before you make your way to our neighboring country Austria, you should definitely remember that tolls apply on Austria's motorways and expressways. But that only applies to a limited extent for your trip to Salzburg. The section of Autobahn 1 is toll-exempt from the Walserberg junction (border crossing to Austria) to the Salzburg-Nord exit.

If you are unsure, we recommend that you find out in advance which routes require a toll. The numerous vignette sales points, e.g. at the local petrol stations or the digital vignette, provide a short-term remedy.
